iWork.com Beta
I have heard and read various rumors about Apple preparing to launch a free replacement for Mobile.me. Only yesterday, however, I stumbled across the free Beta of iWork.com. iWork.com is a cloud based offering from Apple which allows you to save your documents to the Web, and access them from any device, or share them with others. A unique feature is that, once saved, the document may be downloaded in it's original form, or as a PDF version, which is a nice touch for compatibility purposes.
Multiple Google Calendars on iPad
For some reason, my usual setup for sync'ing multiple Google calendars with my iPhone did not work on my iPad. After a little searching online, I found a working solution from GigaOM http://gigaom.com/apple/ipad-quick-tip-enabling-multiple-google-calendars/
Works like a charm, and all part of the iPad setup to make it the ideal work / home / digital life solution...
Enjoy
Notre Dame Launches First Paperless ‘iPad Class’… and other paperless articles
While I await the arrival of my iPad, I thought I'd have a look around at what other people are doing in the space of using iPads as a paper (and laptop / PC) alternative... here's a few articles which caught my attention:
Notre Dame Launches First Paperless ‘iPad Class’
The Mac Observer has a nice discussion thread on on the topic of replacing paper with iPads in various workplace environments.
This Businessweek article reveals real business savings in time and cost from implementation of iPads as a paper (and PC) alternative - noting that "In the U.S., companies spent about $8 billion on paper in 2007, not counting costs for ink or toner".
Bring on the revolution...!
Balsamiq & iMockups on iPad
My day job is as a Business Consultant / Business Analyst with an enterprise software company (www.curamsoftware.com.au).
As a result, a lot of the work I do, on paper and online, revolves around requirements definition and development of requirements specifications. I have been very interested in adopting Balsamiq for mockups and UI specification.
With my plans to use the iPad instead of paper for a month, I was interested to investigate my options on that device. Balsamiq appears to have an iPad version on the drawingboard, but with no clear delivery date at present.
In the mean time, iMockups have come to the party, providing an iPad app which produces Balsamiq compatible output... definitely worth a look... I suspect I will be adding this to my list of apps for my paperless month...
